Magikal news from the Magikana Valley! 🧙‍♂️🌄🐉

Listen to EurythmY music while you read.

After a harsh Welsh winter, the team visited the Magikana Mountain last week to see how the land was flourishing and to begin preparations for a renewed edition of Magikana Festival this Summer.

We were delighted to discover that many of the 350 tree sprouts planted in the Magikana Valley in 2024 have now grown into beautiful flowering saplings! 🌱✨

It was a big team effort to plant the trees two years ago, involving the Magikana Team alongside the tremendous work of our dearest Saxon, aka Brujo’s Bowl.

Now, the surviving Oak, Rowan, Cherry and Hazel saplings are graciously rising along the embankments behind the festival arena and the Wizard’s Pyramid stage.

There is a truly magikal story behind these special trees. Now feels like the perfect moment to share with the wider Magikana Community.

A Blessing in Disguise

One of the reasons Magikana Festival took such a long break after 2013 was because, in the years that followed, we faced an unjust legal challenge from a large UK corporate radio company called “Magic Radio” who opposed our use of the name “Magikana”.

At the time, we were potentially facing thousands of pounds in compensation claims for allegedly attempting to “pass off” as the commercial radio station. This situation left us frozen for a long period, unable to properly plan the festival or launch campaigns, not knowing what the outcome would be.

Sadly, we had to postpone the festival a few times but we did not lose hope…

As we couldn’t afford expensive solicitors to defend us, we prepared our own defence. We explained to the Welsh Court that “Magikana” is an invented word, that it doesn’t exist in the dictionary, an that it was a name created from fresh Celtic air, carrying the meaning of “The Secret of Magic”.

Nearly two years after entering this surreal legal battle, we finally won the case without lawyers, meaning Magikana was able to continue carrying its unique and magikal name forward. The Welsh Court ordered the radio company to pay Magikana compensation, however, they refused to do it for years. By the time they were finally forced to pay, interest had accumulated.

The Magikal Trees

The Magikana organisation decided to use this symbolic compensation to plant trees in the Magikana Valley as an offering to the sacred land that welcomed us back in 2024. This was done precisely two years ago…

Today, those flowering saplings stand as a living symbol of how Magikana continues to grow organically, sustainably and fiercely independently. The magikal trees are now growing alongside us and, in the years to come, we will witness them dancing with their branches across the stunning Magikana Valley.

An Ancient Greek Proverb says:

“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit”.

We believe this Ancient Wisdom reflects the Magikana ethos and the true meaning of life. The magikal trees are our contribution to the Psy Tribes of the UK and our offering to future generations who will come to the Magikana Valley, as we ourselves may never sit beneath the shade of those trees. However, our children will be…

Trees for a Conscious Celebration

As we shared in our post back in 2015 when we had to cancel the festival:

Magikana is an awakening festival with a non-commercial purpose. It was born in 2002 from grassroots, as an underground free gathering, to bring the UK Psy Tribes together for a conscious celebration in the sublime Welsh nature to awaken the mythical Dragon of the British Isles. It is the only festival in the UK that has had a full non-stop, no restrictions musical license, something epic for this country.”

We can now see that some have gone through our sacred texts and borrowed key words from our festival concept — but that belongs to another story, one not worth dwelling upon now…

With hearts full of gratitude, we deeply thank the Magikana Community for your incredible support throughout all these years

The magikal stories are unfolding again… 🌳✨

See you in the mountains for the 24th Anniversary!

Much Love 🧡
